Oh Mel! Maureen Dowd gives scholastic writing and research a good toss, eh? And "avoid sarcasm at any cost" will have me laughin inside for days! I don't know what it's called in Aussie, but in the USA this type of scholastic research is called APA style for the social sciences and Maureen Dowd is a brilliant master. Thank You Thank You Thank you so much for sharing. If she comes to Louisville for a book signing, I will be in that line! BTW...her ref. to Dorothy Parker's poetry is also a promise for some fantastic reads with coffee or tea or whatever. ;D This article is going to SAVE on my puter, maybe even print and frame ... loved it... Pern, I knew that if you found this thread you'd love it! In Oz we call this research much the same thing as you do in the States...we have the Australian Psychological Association here...and naturally I have the style manual somewhere here on the shelves. I haven't got hold of Dorothy Parker's poetry yet but you're right, it'd be a great read. Maybe we'll get the chance to share some over coffee one day...cyber coffee for now. It's a real gem of an article, isn't it? I think it needs to be read a few times just to absorb it all.
Talk soon, Love Mel

Thanks Dorothy...it would be great if you can give this some exposure. Women need to know the truth so they can make more informed choices!

Amen Sistas! Refreshing to read what 'real' women think, especially the ones who don't avoid sarcasm....tee hee. Adrienne Rich's "Aunt Jennifer's Tigers" avoids sarcasm but utilizes imagery to expose the 'weighted' issues of relationships from an 'informed' woman's perspective. Sadly, Aunt Jennifer is informed, but years of oppression have made her afraid to 'speak' or 'write' about her knowledge, so her niece interprets the image of her tapestry for her. A touching work of literary art. Mel you nailed it: Informed Choices...and D you could claim no better literary namesake than Parker, a 'real' woman ahead of her times. She "raged against the machine" fearlessly, probably knowing most of the 'machine' doesn't read...oops sarcasm slipped out , er, well, at least without moving their lips. Thanks again Mel, the satire doesn't get any richer. love Pern
